Nice Witch

 9/8/2021

Witchcraft - Sinatra

It's such an ancient pitch

But one I wouldn't switch

'Cause there's no nicer witch than you”

I mean I aim to be a nice witch.

I love this song so much. When I think of Sinatra, this is one of the songs that definitely plays in my head. According to wikipedia, he recorded the song three different times in the studio.

It was also nominated at the very first Grammys!

There are a lot of other versions of this song recorded by other artists, but this one is my favorite. Although, I definitely have not heard all of the others.

Do you think someone else sings this better than Sinatra?

Black Widow (Woman, Spider, or Hero?)

 9/7/2021

Black Widow - Iggy Azelea, Rita Ora

(warning - Explicit)

“This is the web, web that you weave

So, baby now rest in peace (it's all over with now)

I'm gonna love you, until you hate me (right)

And I'm gonna show you (show 'em what? Show 'em what?)

What's really crazy

You should've known better”

This might be a little bit of a stretch for a Halloween Song. This is my list though, so it is on it.  I actually didn’t know this song until I added it to the playlist.

What is really weird to me is when you search Black Widow on Google, the marvel character was the only result for me. I had to reframe my search to see anything about the spider, and it took some digging to find the meaning of a woman killing multiple husbands. There were other connotations and meanings that popped up before that one.

I thought that meaning was really common and would be right at the top.

What do you think of when you hear “Black Widow”?

Superstition - Stevie Wonder

The first song I added to my Halloween Playlist.

Very superstitious,

Nothin' more to say,

Very superstitious”

Even though this was a song at the American Idol Experience AND I had to hear it SOOO often while working there, I still like it.

Nothin’ more to say.

Men In Black 9/5/21

 9/5/2021

Men In Black - Will Smith

A Grammy Award Winning Song.

I used to be able to rap the whole thing. I don’t think I have retained that knowledge, but it still makes me want to dance.  I remember watching the music video over and over trying to memorize the dance break.

The back up singer for this song is Coko, an R&B Singer with both solo albums and albums with Sisters With Voices.

The song utilizes a Sample from the song “forget me nots” a post-dsco song that charted on the dance and R&B charts in 1982.

Did you know Coko or Forget Me Nots before this song? Did you work to memorize the dance?

Therapy For Fears

Vampires, Mummies & The Holy Ghost - Jimmy Buffett

“ I need protection from the things in my Head like

Vampires, mummies and the holy ghost

These are the things that terrify me the most

No aliens, psychopaths or MTV hosts

Scares me like vampires, mummies and the holy ghost”

This song was on the Fruitcakes album, which was my introduction to Buffett. I love this song, and the whole album. I also tend to be more afraid of  “my brain playing tricks on me”

The song really does advocate for therapy.

ALL the SPOOKY!

 Spooky - Dusty Springfield

“Just like a ghost you've been a-hauntin' my dreams

But now I know

You're not what you seem

Love is kinda crazy with a spooky little boy like you”

I didn’t realize Dusty Springfield was not the first one to record this song. According to Wikipedia, the first recording was actually instrumental. Then it was recorded with a male voice and “spooky little girl.”

I am going to look up some more versions of this song. Gotta figure out which one I like best.

Have you heard other versions? Which version is your favorite?

Flesh & Bone - ZOMBIES 2

 Flesh & Bone -From Z-O-M-B-I-E-S 2

I was very skeptical about the films ZOMBIES and ZOMBIES 2, but they have become Halloween staples for me.  It currently is 100% on RottenTomatoes   I place these films at the same level as Zenon or Halloweentown.

And the reason is ALL ABOUT the music. They are just fun bops. You will probably see more then one song from this franchise on this countdown.

This song is from the second movie, and might be slightly spoilery if you have not seen the film yet, but I mean plot wise they are rather predictable.

Have you seen these movies? Are they just as good as the hey-day of Disney Channel Original Films?

Halloween Countdown Begins!

Halloween Song-a-Day!

I am lovingly stealing from those who do a countdown to Christmas with a song-a-day, and bring you a Halloween Song Countdown.

I Love You So Much (It’s Scary) - Boyz4Now

Originally aired on Bob’s Burgers on October 18, 2015, the song (and music video) are not a part of the main plot of the episode: The Hauntening. The episode sees the Belche parents attempting to scare Louise.  It is a great episode, and won an Annie Award for writing. In fact all of the Halloween episodes are sure to put you in a spoopy fun mindset. You can find the episode names/where to find them on my Halloween Viewing spreadsheet

Boyz4Now  is introduced to us in the third season of Bob’s Burgers. According to Wikipedia, “The series' production crew opted to make the group Boyz 4 Now a general parody of boy bands rather than base them on any specific artist, as they all had several different boy bands which "made them chuckle" while making the episode. Creator Loren Bouchard assigned several female staff members with the task of designing the physical appearances and wardrobes of Boyz 4 Now's members.”

I dunno about you, but I am getting real Everybody (Backstreets Back) vibes from that video.

I also admit I would have definitely loved Boyz4Now if it were a real band in my boy band loving heyday.

How about you, you would have loved Boyz4Now? Is there a Boy Band you feel like is represented more than Backstreet Boys by Boyz4Now?

(Also gotta love the line, My body is extra hairy)
